Codub commences asset register and barcoding (asset tagging) of the University Square, Stratford (USS).

Codub Consulting is pleased to announce the award of a contract to carry out an asset survey and barcoding (asset tagging) of all M&E assets at the University Square, Stratford (USS).

Opening in the autumn of 2013, University Square is a unique partnership between Birkbeck, University of London and the University of East London. The joint vision of the two distinguished and complementary institutions is to create a major new university campus to meet the growing aspirations of local people at a time of great change and opportunity in East London.

With an almost civic character, incorporating large runs of glazing at ground level and giant picture windows above, it has been designed to be attractive and welcoming and to show passers-by the mix of educational activities taking place inside. The site will have a fully landscaped learning garden open for students and staff to use. The five-storey building, comprising 8,600m2, is orientated around a large light-filled atrium and will house flexible teaching and performance spaces for over 3,400 students, as well as academic and administrative offices. The reception area and atrium foyer provide the central hub of the building, as well as a student advice centre, IT helpdesk, cafe and a small library.

As part of the contract, all the assets are to be bar-coded (tagged). The survey will commence towards the end of July, 2013. Codub will be surveying the USS using the industry approved Motorola MC55hand held PDAs to do the asset collection, which eliminates the need for paperwork and all the associated errors and time delays. The MC55 packs the power of a cell phone, two-way radio, barcode scanner, digital camera and mobile computer. The end result will be that the client will have a detailed and accurate asset register from the beginning. This information will then be fed into a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
