ABUJA, NIGERIA — In a significant step towards modernising Nigeria’s agricultural sector, Codub Group recently concluded two intensive three-day capacity-building workshops for senior civil servants from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS). The training sessions, held in October 2025 at the Candellux Imperial Hotel in Abuja, focused on Inclusive Agricultural Market Development (IAMD) and Value Chain Development (VCD)

Strengthening Institutional Capacity

The workshops were designed for senior public officers (Grade Levels 12–13) to enhance their ability to design, implement, and monitor strategies that increase competitiveness and shared prosperity within the agricultural sector. Over the course of the week, nearly 180 participants engaged in interactive sessions, case study analyses, and group exercises.

Key Training Highlights

  • Inclusive Market Development: Participants explored strategies to remove barriers to inclusion for women and youth, focusing on market systems analysis and stakeholder mapping.
  • Value Chain Mapping: The VCD session provided hands-on experience in mapping actors, margins, and bottlenecks for key Nigerian commodities, including production, processing, and trade.
  • Strategic Outcomes: Both workshops resulted in the initiation of departmental action plans for the 2026 work year and the development of draft Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concepts.

Expert Facilitation

The sessions were led by Bernard Olusegun Siwoku, a veteran Agribusiness and Value Chain Development specialist with over 20 years of experience. He was supported by a diverse team of experts, including Dr Lynda Chioma Neto-Umeano, a subject-matter expert in social impact and inclusion, and senior consultants from the Codub Group.

Participant Acclaim

Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of participants expressing interest in attending future Codub training sessions.

“The training was fantastic! I had an amazing learning experience for the three days… the venue was comfortable and honestly, everything went very well.”Amihere Aladi Joy, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Agric Department.

“The experience was eye-opening as I gained a lot from the facilitators and hope to learn more as the day goes by.”Imolegah Harrison Abiodun, Principal Agricultural Officer.

Looking Ahead

Following the successful delivery of these programmes, recommendations have been made for FMAFS to formalise a long-term partnership with Codub Group. Proposed next steps include “deep-dive” clinics on agricultural finance and climate-smart value chains, as well as the development of an FMAFS-branded Inclusive Market Development Toolkit.
